Tactical third-person shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online will be available for Windows PC via Steam Early Access, Ubisoft announced today. Ghost Recon Online is a team-based shooter in which players participate in 16-player matches. The game is available through Early Access in Canada today; a worldwide release is expected this spring. According to producer Corey Facteau, bringing Ghost Recon Online to Steam has been the team's goal since the game's inception. "We took the time necessary to reach a quality level that can go head to head with the best online games available today before releasing on Steam," Facteau said. "As the top shooter for gamers who enjoy team gameplay, we have also seen our audience expand to include MOBA fans, who comprise fifty percent of our user base....

In September, it was announced that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online would be getting some of Sam Fisher's iconic weaponry from the Splinter Cell games; this trailer is an overview of the guns in action. The game's combat designer Nickole walks viewers through the various guns, which all seem to have some sort of noise suppression to make the shooter more elusive. The weapons include Sam's FiveseveN sidearm pistol and the M200 sniper rifle, and Nickole demonstrates the best ways to use them on the Ghost Recon Online battlefield. The weapons will be available in the store until Nov. 12.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online, Ubisoft's free-to-play shooter, will incorporate weapons and gear from the Splinter Cell franchise in the upcoming 0.13.0 update, Ubisoft announced today. "The spies of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon Online's Ghosts can now go toe-to-toe with the Phantoms," said Corey Facteau, Ghost Recon Online's producer at Ubisoft Singapore. The upcoming patch, which has not been dated, will also add the ability for players to gift items through the game's store. A new map called Khyber Stronghold will also arrive in the game. "Khyber Stronghold is the most ambitious map we've developed to date," Facteau said. "We're transporting our players to the Middle East, to a city inspired by Peshawar, Pakistan. Our community is more than three million strong, who we work to...

Ubisoft has released a new video for its upcoming Ghost Recon Online title in development at Ubisoft Singapore discussing the next update to the game. In 0.11.0, players will be able to beta test maps in order to offer feedback that the developers can act on before their release. The update also adds functionality that allows players to test out weapons and attachments in a firing range or even in a limited PvP setting before purchasing them. Update 0.11.0 also adds locked chests that randomly contain gear, similar to Valve's microtransaction model in Team Fortress 2 and Dota 2. Ghost Recon Online came out for Windows PC last August, and is scheduled for a Wii U release sometime this year.
