Trials Fusion's challenges will have you playing tennis

Trials Fusion, the sequel to Ubisoft's platform racer Trials Evolution, will feature a challenge mode that will completely transform how players experience the game's race tracks. The game, which will launch in North America on April 16 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, will offer players multiple challenges on each track. The nature of these challenges vary wildly, from performing a certain number of flips before the end of a track to playing a game of tennis. "At first, we were like, 'Let's do simple things you can already do in levels, like do a flip,'" said Trials Fusion creative director Antti Ilvessuo. "Then we gave our developers total freedom to invent whatever they like and, if someone finds something good, then we can improve that." This "total freedom"...

Trials Evolution video teaches viewers how to pass the trickiest trials

A new "Trials University" video for Ubisoft's Trials Evolution teaches players tips and tricks for tackling the game's toughest objectives. By shifting the characters' weight and ensuring that certain wheels make contact with the ground first, explains Professor Fat Shady, players can pass obstacles at the tops of ramps or consecutive jumps in a row with no way to start from a dead stop. The next Trials University video is due on Oct. 18, says the host. Ubisoft is currently developing two new Trials games: Trials Fusion for consoles and Trials Frontier for mobile devices.

Trials Frontier adds meta game with quest lines and crafting

Trials Frontier — the mobile iteration of Redlynx's Trials series — will include the hardcore bike tracks that fans love, as well as crafting and quest lines that will appeal to a broader audience, according to lead designer Justin Swan. Swan told Polygon that Redlynx wanted to take everything that was good about the console version and bring it to mobile, while also looking at what they could do differently to expand the series' user base. "We looked at all the games that were already out there on the app store, and there are a ton of 2D physics racers out there, but none of them were even close to or even shadows of what it is to play Trials HD or Trials Evolution on the Xbox," Swan said. "So we were really all about making the very best 2D physics racing experience on a device —...

Trials Evolution custom map is crazy physics meets M.C Escher

A new Trials Evolution custom map designed by YouTuve user B1toDO uses some truly bizarre physics to cross the finish line. The map, called "Illusion 1800," features platforms that simply appear out of nowhere, grow in size, change from horizontal to vertical as well as some platforms that simply move by themselves, while all in black and white. Players can create new courses using the Trials editor tool, which was described in our earlier 9 out of 10 review as something that "actually manages to put Halo's Forge to shame. "Most will stick with basic track creation, placing a few wacky jumps and objects throughout a world before selecting an ideal path through them. But more dedicated editors can go much further. The advanced editor actually allows you to make challenges that don't...
