Valve greenlights 10 indie games, including Akaneiro: Demon Hunters

Ten indie games are headed to Steam via Project Greenlight, among them American McGee's recently-Kickstartered Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, according to a press release from Valve released today. The fourth round of games from Project Greenlight includes: Akaneiro: Demon Hunters Asylum DLC Quest Eador. Masters of the Broken World La-Mulana Leisure Suit Larry MaK The Age of Decadence Unepic War For The Overworld The games above, which are in "varying stages of completion," will be released "independently in the months ahead," according to the press release. War for the Overworld Kickstarter concludes at 40 percent above £150,000 goal

The Kickstarter drive for Subterranean Games' War for the Overworld ended earlier this afternoon at £211,371, a total that's 40 percent past the studio's original £150,000 goal. "Thank you everyone for your support. This has been an amazing and humbling couple of weeks," the developers said on Twitter upon the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign. More than 8,300 backers pledged their support to the project, which Subterranean describes as a god game with strategy elements that's inspired by classic franchises like Dungeon Keeper and StarCraft. While the Kickstarter drive did not reach the next "flex goal" of adding the voice talents of Richard Ridings, the actor who voiced the Mentor in the first two Dungeon Keeper titles, interested parties can continue to donate through PayPal...

War for the Overworld mixes strategy with god game mechanics

War for the Overworld, a Kickstarter project from Subterranean Games, promises backers a mix of real-time strategy and god game elements inspired by titles such as Dungeon Keeper, Starcraft and Overlord. As a lord of the underworld, players will gather forces, build dungeons and create traps to destroy would-be heroes attempting to vanquish evil. War for the Overworld includes plans for a main campaign, multiplayer and sandbox mode. If funded, the game will also include a tool called the Dungeoneer, which will allows players to mod maps, campaigns, assets and new game modes at their discretion. Backers will receive rewards on tiers beginning at £1 and ending with £5,000, with in-game emblems, a digital copy of the final game, access to the beta and the game's soundtrack spread...
