Developer Wargaming will commemorate its 15th anniversary by hosting a special tournament for its free-to-play MMO World of Tanks, the company announced today. Wargaming will host qualifying rounds across the globe, with major matches taking place across North America, Europe, Russia, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Vietnam and China. Second and third place winners will score "massive" caches of in-game gold for use in World of Tanks. The winning teams from each region will receive all-expenses paid trips to Minsk, Belarus to visit the World of Tanks studio and meet the development team. Wargaming filed a copyright infringement suit against a pair of Chinese companies in a U.S. District Court in the northern district of Illinois this week, alleging that Gamease's Project Tank is "disturbingly similar" to its popular online game World of Tanks. Project Tank, which operates under the name Tanks Ground War and plans to operate under the name Ground War Tanks, according to Wargaming's complaint, is "an unoriginal and disturbingly similar game directly based on the World of Tanks." Wargaming's suit alleges that Gamease's tank game, which has been playable in a closed beta on Facebook, "copied the plot, theme, dialogue, mood, setting, pace, and character of World of Tanks, in addition to copying specific features, items, tanks, and artwork." World of Tanks developer Wargaming.net launched its second annual National Military Appreciation Month charity drive today, with two discounted bundles of in-game content being sold in May for the free-to-play military MMO. For $23.39, players can pick up a bundle of 2,000 in-game gold and 2 million credits. A bundle with a T34 premium tank and garage slot, 90 days of premium account status, 10,000 gold and 1.2 million credits costs $115.99. The bundles will be available from 2 a.m. ET on May 1 through 2 a.m. ET on June 1. World of Tanks recently suffered a "security incident," and developer Wargaming.net is now encouraging players to change their passwords, with the incentive of free in-game gold for doing so. "We recently became aware that some personal information may have been compromised due to a security incident," Wargaming.net announced today. According to the company, no financial information was accessed in the breach, but users' email addresses and hashed (not plain text) passwords may have been released. As a result, Wargaming.net is launching a campaign, the Change Your Password Event, in which it is offering players a one-time payment of 300 gold for updating their password. Users can change their password on the account management page, and will receive their free gold within 24 hours.

Wargaming is commemorating the two-year anniversary of strategy title World of Tanks' launch in North America by rewarding players with bonuses and discounts, the company announced today. The festivities will start on Friday, April 12 at 7:30 a.m. ET and end on Monday, April 15 at 7:00 a.m. ET. Players can snag a 5x experience bonus for the first victory of each day in each vehicle. There will also be 50 percent discounts on equipment and crew training and retraining, as well as other discounts when making purchases with earned credits or the in-game gold currency. Players can also take advantage of credit increases ranging from 30 to 100 percent for using specific vehicles, as well as a 15 percent gold discount on a handful of premium vehicles. NVIDIA will host the GeForce eSports World of Tanks open tournament in five different regions, the company announced via press release. World of Tanks, developed by Wargaming.net, is a free-to-play team-based massively multiplayer online game. Players in China, Asia Pacific, Europe, Russia and the Americas will be able to participate in the free tournament, which includes seven-member teams competing for the best of three games. Wargaming will kick off its road tour at South by Southwest 2013 with gaming stations, in-game promo codes, free items and more, the company announced. Events will center around Wargaming's five-ton hummer, which is outfitted with different gaming stations. The tour will include stop across the United States in "major cities" for fans to try out World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, a free online game currently in closed beta. SXSW will take place from March 8-17 in Austin, Texas. Wargaming will be present on March 8 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again March 9-10 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Events Center. World of Tanks developer Wargaming.net is entering the eSports fray with the formation of the Wargaming.net League, the company announced today. Wargaming.net is planning to launch its new eSports league in the first quarter of 2013. The company will run it in the traditional eSports format, with regional tournaments and playoffs that whittle down the player base to a select few who will compete in a Grand Finals event.
