Rumors, leaks and official box art point to Assassin's Creed 3 being set during the American Revolution. Ubisoft promises the official reveal is coming Monday, March 5.
Assassin's Creed 3 will include two-to-four-player online cooperative modes, according to the game's listing on Xbox.com. The original database entry for the title not only referenced its returning "Online Multiplayer 2 - 8," but also that it would include "Online Co-op 2 - 4." The listing has since been revised to remove any mention of the co-op functionality — but not before eagle-eyed archivists at Eurogamer snagged a screencap.
We've contacted Ubisoft to find out if the listing is on the level. In the meantime, we suggest you really think about the implications of being stabbed by four...

Five screenshots supposedly ripped from the colonial folds of Assassin's Creed 3 have been posted on Reddit, showing off the American Revolution backdrop in which the recently revealed title is set. Reddit user Dylanjosh did not cite the source of the uploaded images, but they certainly appear authentic. In a press release statement, Ubisoft said, "We confirm that Ubisoft will announce all the details of Assassin's Creed III on Monday, March 5th at 5pm."
We've contacted Ubisoft to acquire as many details as we can get about the series' new setting. Stay tuned!

The banner image, above, was quickly removed by GameInformer, but not before website Toastervision snapped a screencap.
The news buttresses a similar rumor posted early this morning on Kotaku. A tipster claiming to be a Best Buy employee provided the outlet with a...
