The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has sold 1.7 million units across its original PC release and its "Enhanced Edition" console versions.
The announcement came during developer CD Projekt Red's Summer 2012 conference, alongside a video of each of the studio's employees thanking fans for their purchases. The game will be released in Japan on August 23rd, and on Mac this fall. Folks who haven't made the leap yet can purchase The Witcher 2 on the DRM-free GOG.com platform for $29.99, a 40 temporary percent discount off the regular price.
The funds earned from those 1.7 million sales are being reinvested into the development of two new "AAA role-playing" titles, one of which is expected to be announced later this press conference.
