Nintendo's "Nintendo Direct" livestream revealed new details about Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Animal Crossing 3DS, and the not-really-surprising 3DS XL.
Two new Virtual Console titles will be added to the Nintendo 3DS eShop every week in July, Nintendo announced today during its Nintendo Direct presentation.
Every week, starting July 5th and running through August 1st, two classic Nintendo titles will be added to the 3DS's digital sales platform as part of the "8-Bit Summer" promotion. The full list of games was revealed in a trailer launched after the presentation's conclusion, which is embedded below.
The trailer lists the following titles for release:
- The Legend of Zelda — July 5th
- Kirby's Pinball Land — July 12th
- The Sword of Hope 2 —...
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime announced today that the new Fire Emblem title would hit the Nintendo 3DS sometime next year.
Reggie didn't specify exactly when in 2013 we'd get the latest entry in Nintendo's turn-based strategy game, known as Fire Emblem: Awakening in Japan, but he did confirm that the North American release will feature downloadable content. Fire Emblem: Awakening features paid DLC in the form of downloadable characters.
Fire Emblem: Awakening was released in Japan in April.
A demo for Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is available on the Nintendo eShop right now, following the U.S. Nintendo Direct presentation.
The demo offers a tutorial and brief cross-section of the title, the full version of which will hit U.S. store shelves on July 31st. We recommend giving that tutorial a thorough examination — you'll need it to understand the game's new combat features. Unless, what, you're already an expert in doing link attacks with Spirits and shifting reality to your will? Yeah, we thought not.
Released in February in Japan, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is coming to the 3DS in North America in November, Nintendo officials said tonight.
The game, which has players solving puzzles as Layton and apprentice Luke, will include 150 puzzles at launch and another puzzle a day for a full year starting with the game's launch.
This is the fifth game in the Professor Layton series.
Nintendo of America has confirmed that the XL-sized Nintendo 3DS will be coming to North America this summer.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, announced an August 19th launch date for the 3DS XL during a Nintendo Direct presentation. The new system hits the same day as 3DS game New Super Mario Bros. 2.
The Nintendo 3DS XL will be priced at $199.99 and will include a 4GB memory card.
In Europe, the Nintendo 3DS XL will begin shipping on July 28 alongside the launch of New Art Academy.
In North America, the new system will come in two color variations, blue and red.
After a surprising absence at E3, Animal Crossing 3DS has resurfaced during tonight's Japanese Nintendo Direct livestream, showing off some new features utilizing the handheld's StreetPass functionality.
The game allows new visitors to come to your town — which is to say, the town you're mayor of — using StreetPass. Just as denizens could move between memory cards in or over WiFi in installments past, you can swap neighbors with ... well, a real-life neighbor by bringing your 3DS in close proximity to their 3DS. That could make gaming events like PAX a veritable orgy of townfolk swapping.
Nintendo's stereoscopic 3D portable will get an all-new, extra-large model this summer with the release of the Nintendo 3DS LL in Japan, a hardware update that introduces larger screens and a redesign to the system's exterior.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata unveiled the Nintendo 3DS LL during the company's Nintendo Direct livestream today, confirming a report from Japan's Nikkei that hit earlier this month.
The 3DS LL will boast a new 4.88 inch stereoscopic 3D display screen, an increase from the 3.53 inch screen in the current Nintendo 3DS model. The system's secondary display, the...
Nintendo plans to sell downloadable levels for New Super Mario Bros. 2's Coin Rush mode following the game's release, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during a presentation today.
The 3DS game, due out worldwide in August, will feature a Coin Rush mode which has players running through three random levels trying to collect as many coins as possible with only one life.
But during a Nintendo Direct video presentation, Iwata said that there will also be paid download stages for the mode following the game's release. The development team plans to create the levels later this year,...
The next Super Smash Bros. title will tap the development talent of Namco Bandai Games, Nintendo revealed today during its Nintendo Direct live stream.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that Project Sora, the studio helmed by Masahiro Sakurai and developer of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii, will work alongside Namco Bandai games in creating the fourth Smash Bros. game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
Namco Bandai has two key fighting game franchises of its own, Tekken and Soulcalibur.
The collaboration between the two companies could mean opportunities for Namco Bandai characters like...
