Worms Revolution, the latest entry in the worm-murdering turn-based strategy series, will launch on PSN on October 10th in Europe and Australia, developer Team17 announced today.

It will cost £9.99 in the United Kingdom, and €12.99 in Europe.

Revolution is a reboot of sorts for the 17-year-old Worms franchise. It retains the series' classic 2D gameplay, but Team17 is modernizing the experience and adding depth in Revolution. While the action still takes place on a 2D plane, the world is rendered in 3D, and a major improvement in particle effects provides for much more hazy smoke.

Team17 has also implemented a full physics system with objects that behave realistically, and dynamic water also follows the laws of nature. (Worms no longer drown immediately when submerged; they just take damage on every turn.) Physics and lifelike water means that Worms is much more unpredictable, which makes each turn's chain reactions — a hallmark of the series — more exciting.

We've reached out to Team17 to ask about Worms Revolution's North American price and release date. We'll update this story as soon as we hear back. For now, you can check out the developer diary on landscapes, water, and physics below, as well as our E3 preview of the game.

Worms Revolution will also launch this fall for PC and Xbox Live Arcade.
