War begets death, and just as the original Darksiders focused on War's quest to uncover the truth behind a prematurely triggered apocalypse, Darksiders 2 tells the tale of his brother, Death. The trailer below sees him take on angry demons and beasts many times his size.

Vigil Games creative manager Jeremy Greiner told Polygon that Death is the polar opposite of War. While War played as a heavy, tank-like character, Death is much more nimble. His personality is presented as arrogant, which is born out in his refusal to block attacks. And as "the most feared of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," Death is perhaps best suited to bring mankind back from extinction.

Darksiders 2 also expands upon its predecessor by providing a more customized experience, thanks to "hundreds of thousands of items of loot" that will make every person's play-through different. It's also a much bigger game than Darksiders, according to Vigil.

Darksiders 2 will launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on August 14th. For more details, check out our full preview.
