'Second Life' is coming to Steam

Second Life, the online virtual world developed by Linden Lab, is making its way to Steam next month.

The virtual world first launched in 2003 and gained attention for its rapid growth and the way players were able to run profitable businesses and economies in the game.

Players, known as Residents in Second Life, are able to interact with each other through avatars, meet other residents, socialize, and create and trade virtual property.

"What does this news mean for Second Life?" Linden Lab wrote on its blog of the Steam announcement. "You'll still be able to access Second Life just as you can today; there won't be any change to that. But, the more than 40 million people who use Steam will also be able to get Second Life as easily as they can get games like Portal."

There is currently no release date for the game on steam, although it is expected "in the next month or so".
