Professor Layton's next game will be his last

Professor Layton will rise again in the sixth installment in the series, however this will be the last title featuring his presence.

Professor Layton's next game will be his last, it was confirmed today during the Nintendo Direct conference in Japan.

Layton Kyoujyu to Cho Bunmei A no Isan, translated loosely to Professor Layton and the Legacy of Super Civilization A, will feature Layton and his assistant in their travels across a snowy region. However this will be the conclusion of the titular character's story.

The game takes place a year after the previous title in the series, and begins with someone contacting the Professor, claiming they have found a "living mummy."

This sixth installment in the Layton series, developed by Level-5, is scheduled to release next year.
