'PlanetSide 2' developers plan for weather, wildlife, and free seamless continents
PlanetSide 2 gets weather features and more following its initial launch.
PlanetSide 2 developer Sony Online Entertainment plans to introduce weather, wildlife, and seamless continents to the upcoming massively multiplayer sequel of the classic 2003 original title.
According to a Q&A session on Reddit with Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley, weather patterns such as rain, lightning, and fog will be included in the title after launch. Smedley adds he hopes to include wildlife and hunting features to the title. When asked whether the team will introduce space and naval combat to the studio's three-year plan for the title, Smedley stated they intend to.
"It is part of the plan. Seamless continents. Not saying it's technically feasible yet but it's part of the plan," he wrote.
In addition, Sony Online Entertainment will not offer expansions for the title in the traditional sense; rather, its goal is to avoid charging or future content and offer new continent maps for free in a similar manner to the Riot Games free-to-play title League of Legends.
All beta key holders and registrees are expected to be able to access the PlanetSide 2 beta within two to four weeks. The title will finally release to Mac users following its initial PC launch, but "you aren't going to see [PlanetSide 2] on Linux," says Smedley.
The PlanetSide 2 beta is scheduled to begin August 6th. No official release date is announced as of yet.
