A closer look at 'Battlefield 3: Armored Kill's' Alborz Mountains

As envisioned by EA Digital Illusions CE, the Alborz Mountains, the northern Iranian mountain range that stretches to the Caspian Sea, seems like a peaceful place. At least without all of those tanks it does.

In this one-and-a-half-minute long video we get a flythrough look at one of the maps coming to Battlefield 3 as part of the Armored Kill expansion pack. The video is meant to show how the team is working to increase the terrain fidelity of the game.

What that means specifically, according to DICE environment artist Andrew Hamilton, is higher resolution terrain and vegetation textures, more detail in organic objects and a higher density of objects scattered around the landscape.

Why bother? The broader expanses found in the upcoming tank maps mean that players will be scrambling for more cover, and the team wanted to make that cover more natural.

Dive deep into that process over at the official Battlefield 3 blog, where Hamilton walks players through the process of building this glorious mountain chain map.

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill hits September 3th for Battlefield Premium members on the PS3 and September 11th on PC and Xbox 360.
