'Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013' announced with Fearmaster light gun

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013, this year's entry in the long-running hunting franchise, is aiming to draw players in like never before with a new light gun featuring motion and heart-rate sensors, Activision announced today.

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013, this year's entry in the long-running hunting franchise, is aiming to draw players in like never before with a new light gun featuring motion and heart-rate sensors, Activision announced today.

The wireless Top Shot Fearmaster, a shotgun-shaped light gun compatible with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, includes a biometric heart-rate monitor and a sensor for motion stability. It requires its own sensor bar, and uses that technology to track a player's heart rate and the steadiness of their grip. A racing pulse is an impediment to accuracy in real life, and that's the way it will be in Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013.

Of course, the game will do its best to get your heart pumping. Thanks to a new AI system, animals travel in packs and can surround or ambush you, "clever girl"-style. Also new is a two-player split-screen co-op mode called "Maneater," which pits players against waves of bloodthirsty beasts. The single-player campaign features a story by television and comics writer Andrew Kreisberg (The Simpsons, Boston Legal, Fringe). It focuses on two brothers who became estranged after a family tragedy, and are rekindling their relationship by going hunting 10 years later.

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 is set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on October 23rd. On PS3 and 360, the game will cost $39.99 by itself and $79.99 with the Fearmaster; on Wii, it will cost $29.99 alone and $59.99 with a shotgun-shaped plastic shell for the Wii Remote.
