CryEngine 3, according to Crytek, is "the only all-in-one game development solution for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that is truly next-gen ready." It's also apparently the only game engine that can handle a tessellated toad, thanks to its top-secret technology and DirectX 11 support.
Other, less important features include real-time global illumination and volumetric cloud/fog shadows, tessellated vegetation, enough lens flares to make J.J. Abrams cry, and unlimited lighting for particle effects. The trailer below shows off all those elements with in-game footage captured from Crysis 3, whose urban jungle is a particularly effective showcase for the engine's ability to render nature.
Crysis 3 is set for release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in February 2013.
