'Space Invaders' website corrals aliens in a new web portal

Space Invaders received a new website today corralling the alien franchise into a single web portal.

Space Invaders, the 1978 shooter that began in arcades and has since been ported to multiple platforms, received a new website today corralling the alien franchise into a single web portal.

The Space Invaders Portal includes news and information related to the franchise, as well as its history, community forums, and links to buy Space Invaders in several of its current incarnations. Licenesees of Space Invaders merchandise can also register to have their products featured on the website.

The website is the product of a wholly-owned subsidiary of publisher Square Enix, the Taito Corporation, which is responsible for the publisher's arcade and coin-operated business, and mobile phone content and services.

"Space Invaders was an incredible game experience during its release and still remains one of the most admired classic arcade games of all time 30 years after its debut," said Mona Hamilton, vice president of marketing at Square Enix. "With this new launch initiative, passionate fans can relive nostalgic memories and create new experiences with one of the industry’s most memorable franchises."
