One demonstration shows how the controller can be used for multitasking, allowing the user to load up a YouTube video on the TV screen while continuing to browse on the GamePad. Users will also be able to scroll through web pages simply by tilting the Wii U GamePad towards and away from themselves.

Packed with features, the Wii U is an exciting, confused console

In about two months the company that helped reinvent video games not once, but twice, releases its new console.

Nintendo's Wii U is packed with a confusion of technology: It features the motion play that made the Wii so titillating to those unfamiliar with the complexities of modern games; it includes high-definition graphics and supports a modern console controller for hardcore gamers; and it has a touch-screen GamePad to help capture the tablet market.

The only thing it seems to be missing is a clear direction.

What made the Wii such a tremendous success when it launched in 2006 wasn't...

Nintendo has been talking about the Wii U since April 2011.

To whom it may concern:

Re: Wii's successor system

Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.

We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.

Wii U not available for pre-order at Amazon.com

Amazon may be the world's largest online retailer, but the Nintendo Wii U, the first next-generation console, isn't available for pre-order there.

We chatted with an Amazon customer service representative about the Wii U. When we asked if Amazon has an idea of when the console will go on sale there, the rep told us, "I am sorry that I do not have any information about when/if it will be available."

That doesn't sound promising, especially since Amazon doesn't sell the most recent Nintendo hardware: it stopped carrying the 3DS in 2011, and never carried the 3DS XL, which launched in North...

Nintendo will continue to support the future of the Wii console following the launch of the Wii U this November in North America, according to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in an investors meeting following the Nintendo Direct Wii U conference, as reported by Engadget.

According to Fils-Aime, the console sold 40 million units in the US alone, and Nintendo will continue to push the product to late adopters.

While NFC-like technology is used in the Skylanders games to help save and deliver an action figure's stats and upgrades to the different consoles the game is on, it won't rely on the Wii U's support of the tech when Skylanders Giants comes to the console.

"We did entertain the idea," Nick Ruepp, producer at Vicarious Visions, said. "We didn’t want to cripple the GamePad the entire time just so you could put your Skylander on the GamePad."

Second Wii U GamePad won't be supported or priced at launch in U.S.

The standalone GamePad, which will sell for ¥13,400 in Japan (roughly $172), wasn't priced during the Nintendo press conference in New York today. That's because it won't be sold when the console launches, Nintendo product marketing manager Bill Trinen said.

The secret behind Nintendo TVii is an i.TV partnership (video walkthrough)

For 15 minutes today, Nintendo was almost a tech company.

The company devoted a surprisingly low-key, show-and-tell portion of its Wii U launch event to demonstrate Nintendo TVii (pronounced as it were without the "ii"). It's arguably the company's non-gaming gambit, a chance to demonstrate the company is taking the "second screen" argument seriously — one that many companies are attempting these days, with the most direct comparison maybe being Microsoft's upcoming Smart Glass.

Nintendo TVii, as defined by the company, is a "personalized programming guide" for both live and on-demand...
