Making the serum
Before you leave the boathouse safe room, we’re going to reiterate some things about your inventory in case anyone’s just joining us. Make sure you have the D-Series arm and head. You’re also walking into a pretty serious fight. Make a few extra first aid meds if you can and grab any you’ve been storing for a rainy day. Make sure you don’t leave any ammo for your handgun, shotgun or burner behind. We don’t recommend bringing (or using) your grenade launcher in this fight, so you can leave that. (You’ll see why in a minute.)
When you’re all squared away, head upstairs. You’ll cut both of the girls free and give Zoe the D-Series head and arm. When she’s done making it, things get really interesting.
Jack’s Back!
Looks like it’s time for an encore performance of the Ballad of Unkillable Jack — you didn’t think you actually killed him when you cut him in half with a chainsaw, did you? (We did. We’re foolish like that.) This time, Jack is a giant slime monster with glowing yellow eyes all over is body. We’re not going to lie, you’re going to take a bunch of damage during the fight. Jack is huge now, and he covers a lot of ground with his wide, sweeping attacks. But you’ve got two floors to work with and some room to move around.
Your goal in the fight is to shoot out every one of his eyes (and he’s got a lot of them now). This sounds easier than it is. Some of the eyes are in unexpected spots on his body and some of them are completely out of sight depending on where he is. When you find yourself running out of targets, you may need to lure him up to the top floor, then jump down to get a shot at his undersides.
When you take out the last of his eyes, he’ll burrow into the ground, knocking you back, then pop back up to continue the fight. Focus your fire on his last eye with your strongest weapon to end the fight once and for all.
Just kidding! He’s back for one last round, but you don’t actually have to fight this time. As Zoe suggests, you’ll use one of the doses of serum on Jack.
Okay. He’s really dead this time.
We think.
Who do you save?
Follow Zoe out of the boathouse and onto the pier where a boat is waiting. Here, you have to make your big choice — who do you give the serum to? This determines which of the game’s two endings you’ll see later. Your choice doesn’t change any of the coming gameplay, just the final cutscene.
Whoever you choose (we chose Mia), the two of you will take the boat and sail off into the sunset to live happily ever after.
Or maybe not.
