We’re not going to be there for at least another generation. We will get there just not anytime soon. The US is a massive market for gaming and it also has crap for an internet infrastructure.

There are still many places that don’t get internet and places you do you get terrible offers on the speed of it. Around here the fastest you can get is a 1.5mb connection. The US will hold back the consoles from being an all digital platform.

I’m a fan of it.

I don’t buy that this system will be in place at launch.

1. You alienate the large market of gamers that buy used games.

2. Now Best Buy and Walmart have a used games system in place along with Gamestop and that is just shutting them out and those retailers could just not sell Xbox One games.

3. What about the good portion of console owners that don’t have an internet connection, so how could you even inforce it.

I’m sure it has been said in the comments in response to your post but you are in the vast minority of someone who not only has a constant connection but probably a decent one. You know how many people that don’t have even access to internet let alone one that would qualify as broadband.

That is why there won’t be always online required consoles for another generation or two, North American doesn’t have the infrastructure to allow the majority to quality internet.

Who else was going to afford the rights to them? Did you think some small but great dev was going to get their hands on it. It was always going to be exclusive to either EA or Activision.

Plus Obsidian has made some good games but people have to stop treating them like their the second coming, while good they have some of the most broken games ever. KoTOR 2 was not only broken but completely unfinished. New Vegas was damn near unplayable, still to this day you can get multiple crashes.
