If I recall correctly Donald Blake was Thor in exile. Odin sent Thor to Earth in the guise of the crippled Dr. Blake in order to learn humility (The first film loosely follows this idea and gives a wink and nod to it by having Thor use a Dr. Donald Blake’s ID badge).
Since then Blake has been given his own life but Odin created him from whole cloth.
