I think unskippable cut-scenes belong in the same circle of hell. Even if you can skip them though, it’s usually after a second or two of loading. That all adds to annoying loop, when I really just want to get right back into the action.
Checkpoints that are far apart are one thing. Checkpoints right before cutscenes?
Sure, if I turn a game off and come back later I may need to see that again – but if I’ve literally just hit “retry” after failing a section/boss for the X th time – Don’t make me see that cut scene again.
All that achieves is to make me angry at your narrative, no matter how good it is.
