Nintendo’s handheld hardware is awfully ancient. It already was the day it was

By design.

Nintendo has always used lower-power components in their handhelds to keep the pricepoint as low as possible. That was the original conceit beginning with Gunpei Yokoi and the Game and Watch and Game Boy lines.

Complaining about ‘underpowered’ Nintendo handhelds always strike me as odd, because who cares how ‘powerful’ a handheld is if the games are good. My PS Vita blows my 3DS out of the water and yet the 3DS game library is lightyears ahead of the PS Vita.

I mean, I think my PS Vita and Nexus 5 have beautiful screens but the 3DS screens never bothered me.

The thing is, a 3DS in the wild looks a whole hell of a lot better than screenshots and gameplay videos will have you think.
