Halo 4 partners with Mountain Dew and Doritos for snack-fueled double XP promotion

Master Chief's Mountain Dew returns.

Halo fans will have the chance to boost their in-game performance through their real-world caloric intake, as Mountain Dew and Doritos have once again partnered with Microsoft to bring "double XP" bonuses to Halo 4.

To reap those experience point-boosting rewards, players must register themselves and their Xbox Live Gamertags at DewXP.com and/or DoritosXP.com. Then, starting October 15th, Halo 4 players can register codes from specially-marked packages of Mountain Dew Game Fuel and Doritos to get access to Double XP matches. Participants will also have a chance to win prizes, including Xbox 360 consoles, controllers, die cast Warthogs, and Xbox Live Gold memberships.

The promotion goes a step further, thanks to Walmart. 24-packs of Mountain Dew and larger sized bags of Doritos sold at the mega-retailer will offer "Mega XP" - a full 12 matches of Double XP. A limited number of copies of Halo 4 sold at Walmart will also include a unique code that, when paired with the Mega XP offer, unlock 38 matches of Double XP.

All that XP translates to faster access to unlockables and accolades in Halo 4's multiplayer campaign.

In yet another promotion designed to sell more snack food and dole out in-game experience, 7-11 convenience stores will also sell Halo 4-branded Dew and Doritos beginning in late-October. A 7-11-exclusive "King of the Hill" mobile app is also tied to the promotion.

Microsoft first partnered with PepsiCo on a similar promotion in 2007, in time with the release of Halo 3 and Mountain Dew Game Fuel. The limited release soda has since been used to promote Blizzard's World of Warcraft and Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
