Canceled Stranglehold sequel Gunrunner revealed in pre-production video

New, 2 comments

Before the collapse of publisher Midway, the company had a sequel to John Woo's Stranglehold in development titled Gunrunner, according to a pre-production video posted by a former visual effects developer.

The video, spotted by Superannuation, shows a game very early in development, focusing on environmental destruction elements. Character models that appear similar to Chow Yun-Fat's character in Stranglehold, Tequila Yuen, and Vin Diesel, the star of Midway's Wheelman, are featured, although they may be placeholder.

Developer Sean Lantis writes that the Gunrunner was "basically" a sequel to Stranglehold — which was itself a sequel to Woo's Hard Boiled — but was "fully rebranded to appeal to a wider audience." The game never made it to production, Lantis says.

Stranglehold was released in fall 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
