Capcom is teaming up with the famous Japanese all-female musical theater troupe Takarazuka Revue to create a musical based on the Sengoku BASARA video game series, the company announced today.
Takarazuka Revue is a collective of women who perform in Broadway-style productions where they often adapt stories from manga and Japanese folktales to the musical stage. The group previously collaborated with Capcom in 2009 to perform two shows based on the Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright series. A third show, Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney 3, will be performed in Jan. 2013.
The musicals based on the Sengoku BASARA action games, which focus on warlords and warring states in Japan, will debut in June 2013.
Capcom has not announced how many musicals it intends to hold, however previous musicals have been a huge success for both the publisher and Takarazuka Revue, with more than 50,000 people attending the Phoenix Wright performances.
The musical is part of Capcom's "Single Content Multiple Usage" whereby the company applies its IP to TV animation, movies and TV dramas.
The Sengoku BASARA musical will run from June 15 to July 1, 2013 in Japan.
