An upcoming StarCraft 2 patch will add Global Play, allowing players to access games servers in regions outside their own, Blizzard announced.
Global Play will expand "the possibilities for eSports, exposing you to maps and games that aren't yet published everywhere, and making it easy to play with your friends in other parts of the world," the post reads. Once the game is patched, players will be able to freely switch between regions on the login screen and play in different regions when servers are undergoing maintenance.
Characters, profiles, ladder rankings, progress and friend lists, however, will not carry over to new regions.
A specific release date for the patch has not yet been announced, although the post promises it "in the coming months."
