Final Fantasy 14's servers shut down today in preparation for the game's relaunch as A Realm Reborn, and Square Enix has released a special cinematic to mark the temporary farewell.
As the Eorzean Alliance wages battle against the Garlean Empire, chaos quickly takes hold. The resulting worldwide destruction will help pave the way for the team's rebuilding in A Realm Reborn.
Reports from Kotaku indicate that the game's final day was bombarded with game errors, server disconnections and difficulty logging in. According to one player, "There were so many wanting to log on and fight in these promised epic battles that Square Enix had to start turning players away based on subscription end date."
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn does not yet have a release date, although it is slated to enter beta this winter.
