Pocket Gems mobile development studio appoints new CEO

Tapping to success

Mobile games development studio Pocket Gems appointed its former chief operating officer Ben Liu as CEO, GamesBeat reports.

Liu will take over from co-founder and former CEO Daniel Terry, who now takes the position of chief creative officer and executive chairman. Terry will begin focusing on expanding the studio's presence within the mobile gaming market as well as develop new creative initiatives.

This follows what the studio states has been its best quarter in revenues and gross profits. Pocket Gems doubled its engineering employee-base, adding 35 additional employees in September. Its free-to-play titles Tap Zoo and Tap Pet Hotel were the first and fourth top grossing iPhone apps in 2011, respectively.

The company was founded in 2009 while it games have been downloaded over 90 million times.
