Nintendo TVii is coming to Wii U in Japan on Dec. 8, the company announced today.
Nintendo has advertised TVii as a program that will allow users to navigate television channels using the GamePad controller, as well as share comments on MiiVerse, Facebook and Twitter while watching live TV and browse through additional information on specific programs.
The ability to switch between channels on cable and satellite services via the GamePad will be available at launch, but in order to use the GamePad as a remote control, Nintendo TVii users must purchase a ¥100 (about $1.22) add-on for the function.
Polygon has reached out to Nintendo to confirm whether the channel-changing function for TVii will also be a purchasable add-on function when the service launches in North America, and will update this story with more information as we have it.
Nintendo TVii will launch in North America in December.
