A Facebook group has received Crytek's blessing to remake TimeSplitters in CryEngine and is now looking for developers, according to an update posted on the 100,000 Strong for TimeSplitters 4 Facebook page.
"I have just had word from Crytek that they are going to permit and support a TimeSplitters CryEngine mod," wrote Daniel Wesoly, the group's founder. "I am now looking for modders that can handle the CryEngine. If [I] manage to get a group together, then they may let us use assets from the original TimeSplitters game! [S]o the idea is to build a TimeSplitters all-in-one. All the levels, all the characters and all the weapons."
Interested modders can find Wesoly's contact information in the post, where he asks those who can help to step forward.
"TimeSplitters 4 is our ultimate goal..."
The 100,000 Strong for TimeSplitters 4 Facebook group was founded on May 5, 2012 to "convince Crytek to release [an] HD Collection of the TimeSplitters trilogy for [today's] gamers," according to an online petition linked from the group's page. "TimeSplitters 4 is our ultimate goal, but first we have to convince Crytek there is sufficient demand for the series through [an] HD Collection." As of this writing, the group has 41,029 likes.
Earlier this year, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told Game Informer that, if the petition received enough signatures, he "would be very happy to put in front of decision makers in the company, the key stakeholders."
Former developers at Free Radical recently revealed that TimeSplitters 4 was in early development but failed to attract a publisher before the studio closed.
