Square Enix will open the Final Fantasy 14 servers to all of its account holders for free play until Monday, the company announced.
The invitation extends to all players of the game, active or otherwise. This weekend marks the end of Final Fantasy 14 as players currently know it; following the conclusion of free play, the game's servers will shut down to prepare for relaunch.
In an effort to fix the game's numerous interface, control scheme and mechanic problems, Square Enix announced in 2011 A Realm Reborn, the relaunch of Final Fantasy 14. The game will include a fully updated user interface, new graphics engine and more. Players have until Sunday, Nov. 11 at midnight PT to experience the game in its current state for the last time.
An official release date has not been announced for the relaunch, although the game is expected to go into beta before the year's end. Progress made during this free weekend will not carry into a Realm Reborn.
