Dark Matter gameplay trailer tosses survival horror mechanics into Metroidvania mix

Dark Matter, a new project from Nuclear Dawn developers InterWave Studios, adds some clever survival horror mechanics to a tried-and-true Metroidvania gameplay formula, as seen in the video posted above.

The title casts the player as a lone survivor on an alien-besieged space ship, which players must traverse while collecting and conserving vital resources, which can be crafted into new tools at workbenches. Light also plays a vital role in the game; players can avoid enemy encounters entirely by disabling their flashlights, and gingerly stepping around foes.

Check out the video above to see these mechanics and more at work. According to the game's official website, main development on Dark Matter will be finished before the end of the year, with release following shortly thereafter.
