Nintendo confirmed today that the "fun but challenging rhythm platformer" HarmoKnight from Pokemon developer Game Freak will be released for Nintendo 3DS in North America and Europe in 2013.

In HarmoKnight, players control a young warrior named Tempo who battles his way through automatically scrolling levels, collecting floating notes and slashing at enemies. While some of the action is played out on strictly side-scrolling levels, the game switches to a 3D perspectives during other moments. HarmoKnight offers a bit of Pokemon fan service in the form of bonus levels featuring music from past Pokemon games.

HarmoKnight was revealed this summer during a Nintendo Direct presentation in Japan as Rhythm Hunter HarmoKnight. The game was released through the Nintendo eShop on Sept. 5 in Japan, priced at ¥1,800.

Nintendo of America did not provide a specific release date for HarmoKnight, but in Europe the game is scheduled for release in March 2013.
