Cinders maker announces Solstice, a visual novel full of secrets

MoaCube, the independent Polish game studio behind the Cinderella-inspired visual novel, Cinders, is embarking on its latest project: Solstice.

The crime-mystery visual novel adopts a similar art style to Cinders and, like Cinders, focuses on the characters' motivations and secrets. The game is set in the middle of a frozen desert where an archaeologist has gone missing and a doctor and a mysterious woman find themselves investigating the disappearance.

The developers write on the Soltice website that every character has something to hide and it's not just about "whodunnit" but why they did it. Solstice developer Tom Grochowiak also tells Polygon that the game has a diverse cast of characters and features predominantly people of color and a gay male protagonist, which is something he believes is far "too rare in video games."

Solstice is currently in development for PC and Mac. A release date is yet to be announced.
