Defense Grid: Containment coming to Steam Jan. 23

Defense Grid: Containment, indie developer Hidden Path's tower defense expansion, will release on Steam Jan. 23, Joystiq reports.

Containment is not a full version of Defense Grid 2, but rather an expansion to the first game, Defense Grid: The Awakening. It will be available for $4.99, or as a $19.99 bundle with all of the Defense Grid content to date.

Defense Grid 2, a Kickstarter project funded in August 2012, hit its requirement of $250,000 to fund its minimum goal, Containment. The expansion is a sequel to 2008's Defense Grid: The Awakening and picks up directly after its predecessor. Containment includes eight levels, a new story, 32 challenge modes and two new characters.

Backers will still receive a copy of Defense Grid 2 when it releases.
