The cover of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 in Europe will feature Woods himself, current top-ranked golfer Rory McIlroy and golf legend Seve Ballesteros, publisher Electronic Arts announced today.
It is the first time that three golfers will appear on the game's cover.
Ballesteros, who hailed from Spain, was one of the world's top golfers from the mid-'70s through the '80s, winning five major championships including The Masters tournament twice. A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, he retired in 2007 and died from brain cancer in 2011.
"We are very grateful to EA Sports for remembering and honoring our dear Seve through this fantastic video game," said Iván Ballesteros, vice president of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, in a press release announcing the European cover. The foundation supports brain cancer research.
McIlroy previously appeared alongside Woods on the box of 2010's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 and the European cover of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13. The 23-year-old North Irish golfer is a two-time major championship winner.
The North American cover of PGA Tour 14 features Woods and Arnold Palmer. Woods does not appear on the cover of the game's Masters Historic Edition; instead, that package includes Augusta National Golf Club co-designer Bobby Jones and 2012 Masters winner Bubba Watson.
