World of Warcraft may be getting a new Battleground set up like a multiplayer online battle arena, according to a video posted by Blizzard community site WoWSerbia.
The video above shows datamined images of the layout for the "Defense of the Alehouse" Battleground, which WoWSerbia reported would come with World of Warcraft's Patch 5.2. The patch released today, and its notes do not mention the Battleground.
WoW Insider also published an overview of the Battleground's map, showing two distinctly-colored green and red areas with three lanes of bridges and pathways running through them. The top-down style is reminiscent of current popular MOBA games Dota 2 and League of Legends.
Polygon has reached out to Blizzard for clarification on what the footage shows and when it will be introduced into World of Warcraft. We will update this story with more information as we have it.
Update: We received the following statement from a Blizzard spokesperson:
The Public Test Realm provides our players with access to content that's currently being brainstormed, developed, and tested, oftentimes many months (or even years) before release. Many times this content never even appears in the live game. While we have exciting plans for the future of World of Warcraft Battlegrounds, we don't have any additional details to share at this time, including if and when any new content on the PTR will become available.
