Demon's Souls gets downloadable release on PlayStation Network on Jan. 8

From Software's dark PlayStation 3 role-playing game Demon's Souls will be released as a downloadable title through the PlayStation Network on Jan. 8, publisher Atlus announced today.

To mark the occasion, Atlus says it will hold a Pure White World Tendency event from Jan. 8 to 14. Newcomers will appreciate the World Tendency server setting, which makes the game slightly easier and enables certain in-game events only available in a Pure White environment.

The downloadable version of Demon's Souls will be priced at $19.99.

Demon's Souls for PS3 was originally scheduled to go offline on May 31, 2012, but Atlus later announced that the role-playing game's online component — crucial to the Demon's Souls experience — would "continue for the foreseeable future." In a comment posted to the PlayStation Blog, Atlus editor Nich Maragos wrote that the game's servers "are up indefinitely at this point, with no planned end date."
