The beta for Bungie's Destiny will be open in early 2014 to players who pre-order the shooter, and the game itself will be released later in the spring, Activision's Dan Amrich confirmed today.
The offer is available while beta codes last, and according to the listing codes will be emailed to buyers one business day after the order is placed. All existing pre-orders on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 or Xbox One will have the beta access applied to their order.
Activision and Bungie have not yet announced a release date for Destiny, and Amazon notes the listed "June 30, 2014" date is only a placeholder.
Last month the Destiny website hinted that beta access may be available with pre-orders for the title. We have reached out to Activision for more information and clarification on Amazon's beta code policy. We'll share more details as we receive them.
Update: The public beta will be available on all platforms (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One) next spring, Activision's Dan Amrich confirmed today. Pre-order customers at participating retailers — Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart — will receive a code that they can redeem for beta access.
Update 2: Amrich later updated the One of Swords blog post to say that Destiny itself will be launching in spring 2014 some time after the beta. We've edited the article above to reflect this.
