Mighty No. 9 fundraising closes with more than $4 million

The Kickstarter campaign for Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty No. 9 ended today with more than $3.8 million in pledges, far overshooting its original $900,000 goal.

In addition to the $186,380 raised through PayPal, the campaign totals more than $4 million. The campaign achieved 16 stretch goals with the help of more than 67,000 backers. In addition to new modes and bosses, stretch goals also added support for multiple current and next-gen console ports.

Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling action title starring Beck, the ninth creation in a line of powerful robots. After a strange virus causes mechanical creatures everywhere to go insane, Beck must find a way to stop them. Funding efforts began Aug. 31, following Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune's announcement during a PAX Prime 2013 panel in Seattle.
