GaymerX2 to take place July 11-13, 2014 in San Francisco, registrations open

Queer geek gaming convention GaymerX2 is set to take place from July 11-13, 2014, expanding to the Intercontinental Hotel, Downtown San Francisco, organizers GaymerConnect announced today.

The first GaymerX took place Aug. 3-4, 2013 in Japantown, San Francisco and featured speakers such as Jessica Merizan, George Skleres, Jared Rea, Christine Love and Porpentine. This year's guests include David Gaider, Mattie Brice, Alexis Ohanian, Gordon Bellamy, Jaime Woo and John Scalzi. Musicians such as 2 Mello and Virt will be in attendance along with Ellen McLain, John Patrick Lowrie and Zach Weinersmith.

"For games to be taken seriously as the pieces of art that they are, they can't live in a culture that is afraid to tackle and discuss issues like gender, sexuality, race and identity," GaymerX co-founder Matt Conn said in a prepared statement. "The amount of support that we've gotten for GaymerX shows that the gaming community is coming around to the idea of having serious debates on how to improve the medium."

Registrations are now available from the GaymerConnect website. Tickets start from $70 and includes access to the full three days and a swag bag. The next level up includes a three-day pass, access to the GaymerX Mixer night, Boss Swag Bag and Boss Shirt. The Donor Level pass includes all of the above along with a donor-only luncheon, GX2 Lounge access and more. Indie exhibitor spaces are also available from $149.

For more information about the GaymerX events, check out our interview with Conn who told Polygon that GaymerX exists to create a safe space for members of the LGBT gaming community. GamerConnect launched a Kickstarter for the convention last year, raising more than $90,000, surpassing its initial target of $25,000.
