A fifth expansion is coming to Paradox Development Studio's role-playing strategy game, Crusader Kings 2, Nov. 18, the developer announced today.
Sons of Abraham dives into religion in the game with a focus on Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Project lead Henrik Fåhraeus revealed changes to the College of Cardinals in a developer diary posted today. According to Fåhraeus, the team wanted to do more with the game's Pope by detailing how he is elected, his power and how to win his favor.
"Thus, we added the Cardinal title and the College of Cardinals," Fåhraeus, wrote. "For simplicity's sake, there are only nine cardinals, and the Pope is always elected from among their number. Cardinals, however, are not elected; they are picked by the Pope from among his courtiers and the bishops of Europe. The selection is based on many factors; age, piety, opinion, culture (the Pope really likes Italians!), etc."
Cardinal control will play an important part in the game. Players cannot ask to have someone excommunicated or invaded if the opposing side has more cardinals.
