Ultra Street Fighter 4 adds Double Ultra Combos, Red Focus Attacks

Capcom confirmed two new changes coming to the fighting system in Ultra Street Fighter 4 next year, tweaking the way Ultra Combos and Focus Attacks will function.

First is the addition of Double Ultra Combos; no longer will players be forced to choose which Ultra Combo they want to bring into battle. Ultra Street Fighter 4 will allow players to have both Ultras at their disposal at once, with the tradeoff being that each deals less damage.

"Having both Ultras available will give you new ways to press your opponent, limit their options, and expand your fighting strategies," producer Tomoaki Ayano said on the Capcom Unity blog.

Also coming is the concept of Red Focus Attacks, a variation of the standard Focus Attack that absorbs multiple hits but also burns meter. "Our vision is that [Double] Ultra Combos will give you more offensive options, while the Red Focus Attack will give you more defensive options," Ayano explained.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 will come to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC in 2014, adding five characters to the roster and a host of balance updates. Players will be able to sample Ultra Street Fighter 4's changes in upcoming location tests, said Peter "ComboFiend" Rosas in a new video, in which he also says unblockable attacks have been removed.
