38 Studios lawsuit depositions began this week

Depositions in the state of Rhode Island's lawsuit against ex-Red Sox pitcher Curt Chilling's 38 Studios began this week, the Associated Press reports.

Max Wistow, the lead attorney for the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, said the first deposition began Thursday with an executive at First Southwest, one of the companies that oversaw and advised the parties in the deal between the EDC and 38 Studios. According to Wistow, former EDC Executive Director Keith Stokes and Deputy Director Michael Saul are scheduled to be deposed in November.

Rhode Island filed suit in November 2013 over the $75 million loan guarantee provided by the state through the EDC. Schilling's studio declared bankruptcy in June 2012. A liquidation auction for 38 Studios' remaining assets is set for Nov. 14-15, 2013.
