This is how Ultimate Team works in NBA Live 14

NBA Live 14 will feature an Ultimate Team mode, developer EA Tiburon confirmed today in a blog post with details on the fantasy team mode.

Ultimate Team, which exists in EA Sports' other team sports games, allows users to purchase packs of digital trading cards with in-game currency (and spend real money on that fake currency). Users take those cards — which feature players, jerseys, coaches, arenas and more — and put together fantasy teams. The existence of Ultimate Team in NBA Live 14 was rumored even before EA officially announced the game.

In addition to that standard functionality, the version of Ultimate Team in NBA Live 14 will offer multiple ways to rack up Coins. That includes "Fantasy Showdown," which lets players take on real NBA teams and other collections of talent (such as the top draft classes from the past two decades) in one-off games. Tiburon will regularly update Fantasy Showdown throughout the basketball season, and if certain players are doing well in real life, the studio will add them as Players of the Week in new cards with increased ratings to reflect that performance.

NBA Live 14 will be available Nov. 19 in North America on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For more, check out our preview of the game from E3.
