Gridiron Thunder pushed to Oct. 30 for multiplatform release

Following its split from Ouya's Free The Games Fund, the launch of sports game Gridiron Thunder has been pushed back to Oct. 30 to accommodate a multiplatform release, according to an update on the game's Kickstater page.

"Because we recently chose not to participate in the Free The Games Fund, we are no longer bound by the exclusivity requirement of the program and can make Gridiron Thunder available on all Android and iOS phones and tablets, in addition to the Oyua," the update states. "In order to make Gridiron Thunder fully cross-platform, we have decided to postpone the launch of the game until Oct. 30."

The title was originally slated to launch Sept. 30. The game was a participant Ouya's Free the Games Fund, a program to incentivize developers to create games for the platform by matching Kickstarter funds of at least $50,000. Participants are required to remain Ouya exclusive for at least six months to receive the full amount from the micro-console company.

Last month, CEO Julie Uhrman announced that the program's new rules requires projects to raise $10,000 from at least 100 backers. Uhrman mentioned at the the time that Gridiron Thunder developers detached from the program after raising "enough money from Kickstarter to launch it on their own."
