Trilobyte launches Kickstarter for The 7th Guest 3: The Collector

Trilobyte Games launched a Kickstarter funding drive today for The 7th Guest 3: The Collector, the latest entry in the adventure game series, seeking $435,000 during a 38-day campaign.

The 7th Guest 3 is a follow-up to the original game, which was released in 1993, and its sequel, The 11th Hour, which launched in 1995. Trilobyte originally announced The Collector this past March and said it planned to launch a Kickstarter drive for the adventure game.

Players will return to the mysterious Stauf mansion, which is fully rendered in real-time 3D and contains 20 spooky puzzles. Since the house is "one large mechanical device," the puzzles must be solved in order, with the goal being to "configure the mansion in such a way that escape from its confines becomes possible." Different rooms will only be accessible in certain configurations, and the layout of the house will seem to bend the laws of spatial relations. The Collector will feature full-motion video, just like its predecessors.

Trilobyte is working on Windows PC, Mac, iOS and Android versions of The Collector, and may also release it on Linux and Steam. Rob Landeros, co-founder of Trilobyte, said in the Kickstarter pitch that the studio "will thoroughly leverage touchscreen, mobile technology and modern standards in video game presentation to bring you the 7th Guest of your fondest dreams (and nightmares)."

Stretch goals for the campaign run from $600,000 to $4 million; at that upper level, Trilobyte will purchase the Nunan Estate in Jacksonville, Ore., which is the real-life model for the Stauf mansion, and turn it into a haunted house for the public. At the time of writing, the studio has pulled in more than $12,500. You can see a screenshot of The 7th Guest 3: The Collector below.
