Production for handheld console NeoGeo X and its corresponding Classics packs has been halted at the behest of hardware company SNK Playmore, according to a license agreement termination notice on SNK's website.
The notice, active as of Oct. 2, demands an immediate cease and desist of manufacturing, distribution, promotion and selling of the NeoGeo X Gold Limited Edition, Mega Pack Volume 1, Classics volumes 1 - 5 and the SNK NeoGeo X Arcade Stick.
"In order to protect our intellectual property rights such as 'NeoGeo' and 'SNK,' decisive measures will be taken against all unapproved NeoGeo X products not subject to the License Agreement," the notice reads.
NeoGeo X launched last December. The Classics and Mega Pack bundles, which include titles such as The King of Fighters '96, Sengoku and Metal Slug 2, became available for pre-order in May. Tommo, the company in charge of the console's manufacturing and production, stopped producing the NeoGeo X Gold System in Japan earlier this year.
At the time of this posting, the console is still available through several online retailers worldwide.
