Disney, Sony vets set to direct Angry Birds movie

Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, animation veterans of Disney and Sony respectively, will co-direct the Angry Birds animated movie, Rovio Entertainment announced today.

According to Kaytis' IMDB profile, he spent nearly 20 years at Disney, animating movies that span from Pocahontas to Treasure Planet to Wreck-It Ralph and the upcoming Frozen. At Sony, Reilly worked as a storyboard artist on films like Space Jam, Spider-Man 2 and Hotel Transylvania.

"I'm very excited that Fergal and Clay have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise," Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed said. "They are two of the brightest rising talents in animation, and I'm confident we are building the right team to tell the story of Angry Birds and deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans."

Jon Vitti, a veteran of The Larry Sanders Show and The Simpsons, is writing the Angry Birds film, which is scheduled for a July 1, 2016 release through Sony Pictures Entertainment.
