Beginning "as early as" Nov. 22, Zune marketplace users will not be able to browse, rent or purchase movies, TV shows and music, Microsoft announced today.
Due to the retirement of Microsoft Points, Zune users will no longer be able to make purchases or rentals from its marketplace. People are encouraged to use Xbox Video to purchase or rent content, which is currently available on Xbox 360 or Windows-operated PCs and tablets. The store will launch for browsers and the Xbox One on Nov. 22, and the Windows Phone 8 this holiday. Purchased Zune Marketplace content will be available through Xbox Video.
Microsoft advises users who still have a Microsoft Points balance, to can transition their Microsoft account from Microsoft Points to local currency by making a purchase, redeem a Microsoft Points card or code on their Xbox 360, or in the Video app or Music app. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that the Zune marketplace could retire as early as Aug. 22.
